Ingredients

  • ¾ pound Ground meat (beef, pork, lamb or turkey) (or tofu!)
  • 12 ounces Old Havana Foods Zesty Hot Cooking Sauce
  • 3 tablespoons Old Havana Foods Mango Pineapple BBQ Sauce (optional to add some sweet to the heat!)

Instructions

  • Preheat non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Brown meat until no longer pink, breaking up into small pieces with spoon.
  • Add Old Havana Foods Zesty Hot Cooking Sauce, and if desired add some sweet to counter the heat by adding 3 tablespoons Old Havana Foods Mango Pineapple BBQ Sauce. Stir well to combine.
  • Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer 5 to 7 minutes, until bubbly, stirring occasionally.
  • Serve on buns for sloppy joes, in tortillas for tacos, with chips as a hearty dip, over cooked pasta, as an empanada filling, in a lasagna … the possibilities are endless!

El Cubanito Cuban American Burger

A pork and beef patty seasoned with Old Havana Foods Sofrito (or Zesty Hot Cooking Sauce), topped with Swiss cheese, a dollop of garlic lime crema and a slather of raisin sofrito ketchup on French bread, give a tasty Cuban twist to this American classic.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef minimum 85% lean
  • 1 pound Ground pork
  • ½ cup Old Havana Foods Sofrito Authentic Cuban Cooking Sauce
  • OR Old Havana Foods Zesty Hot Cooking Sauce (for a slightly spicy kick)
  • 6 slices Swiss cheese
  • 6 3 inch long pieces of French bread, cut in half or buns of your choice
  • ¾ cup Raisin Sofrito Ketchup (click for recipe)
  • 6 slices Tomato
  • 6 leaves Lettuce
  • 6 slices Red onion
  • ½ cup Lime Garlic Crema (click for recipe)

Instructions

  • Pre-heat the grill.
  • In a medium bowl combine the pork, beef, Old Havana Foods Sofrito Authentic Cuban Cooking Sauce (or Zesty Hot Cooking Sauce) and pepper. Lightly mix together until well combined.
  • Form meat mixture into 6 (1/3 pound each) patties to match round or oval shape of rolls being used and set aside.
  • Grill burgers over medium-high heat until cooked through to desired doneness (155°F for medium well), about 5-6 minutes per side. If using cheese, place slice on burger patties and allow to melt.
  • Spread bottom bun surface with 2 tablespoons Raisin Sofrito Ketchup, top with cooked patty, tomato slice, lettuce leaf, burger and onion slice. Spread 1 tablespoon lime crema on top bun surface.

Notes

Serve with additional Raisin Sofrito Ketchup and Garlic Lime Crema.
Use Zesty Hot Cooking Sauce for a spicy kick in place of the Sofrito.

Island Pulled Pork or Chicken with BBQ Sauce

Fully cooked pulled pork or chicken combined with Mango Pineapple BBQ Sauce

Ingredients

  • 4 cups Fully cooked pork or chicken, pulled or shredded
  • 1 cup Old Havana Foods Mango Pineapple BBQ Sauce (more to taste)

Instructions

  • Combine meat and Old Havana Foods Mango Pineapple BBQ Sauce in a microwave safe bowl or a medium saucepan and stir until well combined.
  • Heat until bubbly and heated through, or until temperature reaches 150°F.
  • Serve on buns as a sandwich or on a salad or as an entrée with sides of beans and cole slaw.

Notes

Any precooked, shredded meat could be used.

Cuban Roast Pork

Ingredients

  • 4 pounds Pork shoulder (also called pork butt) (bone in or boneless)
  • 2/3 cup Old Havana Foods Mojo – Citrus Garlic Marinade

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Cut pork into large chunks, roughly 2 to 3 inches.
  • Place pork in heavy, oven-safe dish, with fatty sides up. Pour Old Havana Foods Mojo – Citrus Garlic Marinade over pork. Cover, roast 2 hours.
  • Flip meat pieces over. Cover and roast an additional 1½ hours. Uncover, roast ½ hour longer or until tender and top of pork is starting to brown.
  • Spoon most of the clear liquid fat off of the top of the juices in pan. Using two forks, pull pork apart into bite size chunks. Toss meat lightly with remaining liquid in pan to coat pork.

Notes

Serve as is with a side of Old Havana Foods Fully Prepared Black Beans and fried plantains for a traditional Cuban holiday dish!

Mojo Meat, Seafood and Poultry

Mojo Meat, Seafood, or Poultry

Ingredients

  • 2 to 3 pounds Meat, fish or poultry pieces
  • 4 to 6 tablespoons Old Havana Foods Mojo – Citrus Garlic Marinade
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • to taste Salt and pepper

Instructions

  • Place meat in glass or stainless steel bowl or plastic bag, add Old Havana Foods Mojo Marinade and toss well to coat. Marinate as few as 30 minutes for small pieces or overnight for larger pieces.
  • When ready to cook add oil and toss to coat.
  • Grill, broil, roast or fry to desired level of doneness. Allow to rest 5 minutes before serving to retain juices.
  • Serve with fully prepared black beans, rice and sweet ripe plantains for an authentic Cuban meal.
